ADHD parenting workshop

I have to start by saying this is not a workshop to teach you how to be a parent. If I was told to do a parenting course when my children were little I would have told them what to do with their parenting course. You see, I have ADHD and I would have taken it to be an attack on my autonomy, 'I am a good mum, what a cheek!'. However, my workshops are NOT to teach you how to parent, it is a workshop for parents. I have leaned much about ADHD, the brain and how symptoms looks different in me and my children. With this in mind, I believe that learning about ADHD is paramount when supporting your child.
Parenting can be extremely challenging; just when you think you have it figured out, your child grows and new challenges emerge. For parents raising a child or children with ADHD these challenges change. You may learn techniques and strategies to get by the difficult behaviours but children soon adapt and what worked once doesn't work any more.
My workshops give you an incite of how your child's brain is working, how your child will perceive situations differently to you, how seemingly small things will affect them and it will help you coach yourself by observing, waiting and acting as ultimately, the buck stops with you.
As parents, you should know that as much as you can learn and grow with workshops and teaching sessions it is down to how you put this into practice that counts. Consistency and continuity is vital as one chink in the armor and your child will see an escape route.

So what can you expect in one of my workshops

* Science of the brain- Just an overview of what is happening in your child's brain the areas that cause the deficits and how they manifest. This can help to cement your knowledge of what ADHD is.

* Executive functions- learn what they are, and how they can impact the behaviour of your child.

*Comorbid conditions-There could be many other conditions that co exist with your child's ADHD. We will
be touching on what these are.

*Family connections - ADHD is hereditary. We will be looking at family members and how to help them understand the disorder. Also, how parents with ADHD themselves can find parenting a challenge too.
*Emotional intelligence -learning to be more observant, what to look for in your child and yourself. How to mitigate behaviours, meltdowns and challenges by using your own knowledge about your child.

*Well being-why it is important to look after yourself as a parent. Support networks. 'Let someone help you'

*Big emotions/Big behaviours- At this point, after learning some aspects of ADHD and your children we can look at big behaviours and how to support your child and your family through them.
